Report of the Audience of the Ambassador of Guinea with the Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Consular Affairs

Mr. Mamady Traore, Ambassador of the Republic of Guinea to Kuwait, was received in a hearing on Thursday, 13 September 2018, at his request from 10:40 to 11:10 by Mr. SamiAbdulaziz Ahmad Alhamad, the Assistant of the Minister for Foreign Affairs to Consular affairs. This hearing is a logical follow-up to his previous hearing a week ago with Mr. Anas Issa Majid Al-Shaheen, Adviser to the Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs, in search of appropriate solutions to the problems of his domestic compatriots in difficulty in Kuwait.

After the customary greetings, the Guinean diplomat thanked Mr. Sami for the warm welcome that was reserved for him and for having received him despite his very busy schedule. He expressed his joy to be in Kuwait and to have had the distinctive honour of being his country’s first ambassador to Kuwait, and his determination to work towards strengthening the friendship and fraternal cooperation relations that unite our two countries.

The Assistant to Consular Affairs of the Foreign Minister also thanked the Ambassador of Guinea for this wonderful initiative and assured him of the willingness of the Kuwaiti authorities to work with him for the consolidation of friendly and fraternal ties between our countries.

Addressing the question of his compatriots, the Ambassador of Guinea informed his interlocutor that he had come to him to inquire about the follow-up to his NOTE No. 00494 of 09/08/2018 concerning his request to postpone until a new order the granting of visa 20 to Guinean women, in order to enable all parties concerned to reach agreement on consensual arrangements for the recruitment of Guinean domestic workers in Kuwait.

The Assistant Minister, Mr. Sami, welcomed the approach of the Ambassador of Guinea and informed him that his request had been accepted by the competent authorities. He added that Kuwait is an open country, with 75 per cent of the population being foreigners working in all areas of national life, and where labour rights are guaranteed by Kuwait's law and international commitments.

Mr. Mamady Traore indicated that this measure is temporary and aims to enable the embassy to be fully involved in the recruitment process of its compatriots wishing to work in Kuwait. He informed his interlocutor that there are many Guinean women working in Kuwaiti households who would like to stay there.

The Kuwaiti diplomat urged the Guinean Ambassador to meet with Mr. Mubarak Al-Azmi, National Director of Labour, who will surely be able to provide him with all the information on working conditions in Kuwait and indicate the way forward for the conclusion of a cooperation agreement in the field of domestic work.

Mr. Mamady Traore promised to meet with him shortly.

The meeting ended on a note of satisfaction at 11: 10min.
